International flights are the main source of income for aviation in the Netherlands. Schiphol is doing well and wants to grow further, but is hitting the limits of growth due to noise and other environmental restrictions. This while at the same time some regional airports are losing money.
The aviation industry is looking for solutions for mobility in:
- Cleaner, quieter and more fuel-efficient aircraft.
- Offloading more scheduled flights to the various regional airports
- Twente airport?
- Lelystad airport?
- Multiple responsible authorities
With the Munster-Osnabruck airport across the border a new civil airport Twente seems a futile enterprise. Lelystad is a training airfield and seems outgunned by a lack of hinterland and unfavorable location. How one spreads the growth of Schiphol over the other existing airports?
